1 Housing Space Available – Live at the Amherst Permaculture House!
If you are interested in permaculture and looking for a housing situation that aligns with your lifestyle, check out this opportunity! The Amherst Permaculture House is seeking only 1 more eco-minded individual to live in a 6-person cooperative household who’s front yard was transformed into a permaculture garden over the past 2+ years.
The upcoming lease period starts June 1, 2012 and lasts one year, through May 2013. Five of the 6 spots are filled and there is currently 1 space open in a shared-(BIG)bedroom which has a walk-in closet, great view of the garden, etc!
This space is perfect for a UMass student and/or someone who wants to be immersed in permaculture with a like-minded group of individuals. Rent is $350/month plus utilities (which range from $30/person during summer, to about $75/person during winter.)
Backstory:
In September, 2009, the transformation of an entire grass lawn in Amherst, MA began (address: 3 Willow Lane) into an demonstration edible forest garden! The process was documented and was made intentionally visible so as to raise awareness about permaculture and growing local, sustainable food at your own home. In May, 2011 a tour of this “yarden” took place and eventually this led to the creation of UMass Permaculture, with the help of a dedicated group of students at The University of Massachusetts.
The 3 Willow Lane Permaculture Project was deemed a success after it co-inspired many local residents and universities to convert their own grass lawns into permaculture gardens. Now, 3 Willow Lane is deemed the “Amherst Permaculture House”, or simply “home” to numerous eco-conscious individuals each year.
